Safe and efficient wood splitting tool. This tool makes splitting wood easy and safe. It splits logs precisely where you want them, keeping your fingers safe from the blade.
Handcrafted in Finnish Lapland.
How to use: Place the log on top of the blade and strike it with a mallet, a blacksmith's hammer, or even another log. The ideal striking tool is a 1.5 kg – 2 kg blacksmith’s hammer (available for approximately 10e at most hardware stores).
Technical Details:
High-Quality Blade: Forged carbon steel. The blade has undergone multiple heat treatments, making it tough enough to cut through iron nails without dulling – a common issue with backyard trees containing old barbed wires or nails.
Finish: Machine-brushed and cleaned with acetone. Surface treated while hot with Cosmoloid H80 for long-lasting protection.
Frame: Welded from durable S355 structural steel pipe.
Rings: Made from 10mm twisted square bar or if repurposed material is available.
Installation: Includes 10x80mm lag bolts for mounting the tool to a splitting stump. Attachment instructions will be provided online or included as a paper copy with the shipment.
Dimensions (Approx.): Height 330 - 350 mm, Blade width 135-150 mm, Inner diameter of the rings approx. 235 mm.
Professional Quality: Built to last from father to son. The welding meets high standards, and the heat treatment is done with extreme care: the forged carbon steel has been normalized, hardened, and double-tempered.
Perfect for homes, rental cabins, outdoor fire pits or as a gift.
Additional Options:
17mm Socket Wrench: Available for +10 € if you don't have one in your toolbox.
Stump: You can also inquire about the splitting stump. I have various options, including aged kelo-wood stumps. In addition, I have pine butt logs that have been air-drying for a year. These are exceptionally sturdy and robust. Depending on your preference, I can hand-chisel the surface for a refined finish, apply a treatment to give the wood an aged patina, or leave it natural pale and protect it with vernissa (linseed oil varnish) to prevent cracking. Logs that still contain moisture are prone to split if not dried properly. However, that doesn't necessarily affect the tool's functionality.
